Improving Diversity & Healthcare Simultaneously

Underserved communities in southern Alabama need a more diverse & skilled workforce. We’re here to help that happen.

Promoting the Quality & Diversity of Healthcare for Underserved Communities in Southern AL

Our coastal regions and communities face unique healthcare challenges. To face the present and future hurdles of providing exceptional healthcare, these communities need a diverse workforce of passionate, skilled, and dedicated professionals. At AHEC, it’s our mission to provide whatever resources present and future healthcare workers need to serve their communities better.

Established as a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the Southern Alabama Area Health Education Center (SAAHEC) was established in 2014, and opened its doors in January 2015. The SAAHEC is located on the campus of Coastal Alabama Community College, Brewton Campus. Its aim is to promote diversity of the Alabama healthcare workforce, and education by improving the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals in underserved Alabama communities.
