Promoting the Quality & Diversity of Healthcare for Underserved Communities in West-Central AL
For Alabamians in the West-Central region of the state, equal access to quality healthcare and equal representation within the healthcare system translates to equal opportunity across a lifetime. To empower communities by supporting and educating the healthcare workers that treat them, AHEC devotes time, money, resources, and recruitment for underserved populations throughout Alabama.
Established as a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, the West Central Alabama Area Health Education Center (WCAAHEC) is located in Demopolis, Alabama, and focuses on impacting the lives of vulnerable populations in the communities it serves. The aim of the WCAAHEC is to improve health equity in West Alabama by supporting healthcare workforce and community-based initiatives aimed to address social determinants of health.

The WCAAHEC service region includes Bibb, Choctaw, Dallas, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Wilcox Counties.
