AHEC Scholars Webinar Series

Maternal Health and Substance Abuse
With Stephanie Galbreath

February 21, 2025 I 12:00-1:00pm

The February AHEC Scholars Webinar will be led by Stephanie Galbreath from Comprehensive Addiction in Pregnancy Program (CAPP) on February 21st at 12 pm. CAPP provides help for new and expecting mothers with a current or past substance use disorder.

The CAPP clinic combines prenatal and postpartum care with social services, case management, and peer recovery support, along with evaluation and treatment for addiction, including medications for opioid use disorder. CAPP’s model of behavioral health integration was replicated in Walker County, where several organizations collaborate together as “She Recovers” to support pregnant women seeking recovery from substance use and mental health challenges.

Stephanie will discuss substance use rates, patient demographics, and the social determinants of health—such as economic stability, education access, and social context—that influence health outcomes in the region. The session will emphasize the importance of community-focused approaches to addressing these challenges and fostering long-term recovery.

Scholars will earn 1 exp. hour!
Non-Scholars are welcome!
