AHEC Scholars Webinar Series

Social Work and Interprofessional Collaboration

March 21, 2025 I 12:00-1:00pm

Join us for the March AHEC Scholars Webinar on Friday, March 21st, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, featuring Katie Owens, an Alabama AHEC Scholar Alumni, and registered social worker. Katie will provide valuable insights into the role of social workers in healthcare and how interdisciplinary collaboration enhances patient care.

This interactive session will help students understand the critical role social workers play in addressing social determinants of health (SDoH)—the non-medical factors that influence health outcomes, such as economic stability, access to healthcare, education, and community support. Through real-world examples and case discussions, participants will learn how to identify these factors and work effectively with social workers to improve patient outcomes.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain practical knowledge on interprofessional collaboration and how it can lead to more holistic and patient-centered care.

This session is open to all AHEC Scholars and healthcare students looking to strengthen their understanding of social work in healthcare. Earn experiential hours while expanding your skill set!
