This presentation explores the evolving landscape of marijuana use, distinguishing between medical and recreational applications. It highlights the risks associated with high-THC products and the misinformation propagated through social media platforms, particularly their influence on youth. The session emphasizes the public health challenges of normalizing drug use, the psychological effects of misinformation, and actionable steps to combat its impact through education, regulation, and informed conversations.
 
Participants will be able to do the following:
  • Understand the distinctions between medical marijuana’s therapeutic applications and recreational marijuana use, including their respective legal and social implications.
  • Explore the potential health risks associated with high-THC products, including cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects.
  • Analyze how social media platforms promote, glamorize, or normalize marijuana use, especially among youth and vulnerable populations.
  • Identify the ways misinformation about marijuana spreads on social media and its impact on public attitudes and behaviors.

The Alabama Statewide AHEC Program is an approved provider of continuing hours for nurses by the AL Board of Nursing (Provider ABNP1584 Expiration Date 6/14/2028) and has awarded 1.0 Contact hour(s).
